Quick answer

The regular Deutschlandticket costs €63 per month by subscription from January 2026. It covers participating local and regional public transport across Germany, but generally not ICE, IC or EC long-distance trains.

Deutschlandticket

63 €

per month by subscription

Current for 2026

Applies from 1 January 2026

Valid on participating local and regional public transport, not generally on ICE, IC or EC. State or provider discounts and cancellation mechanics can differ.

What is changing?

The regular monthly subscription price is €63. Providers and federal states can offer separately funded student, trainee, social or job-ticket arrangements.

The basic scope remains local and regional public transport. It is personal, normally digital and not a general long-distance rail pass.

The Deutschlandsemesterticket and employer-supported Jobticket follow separate pricing mechanics. A university, employer or local transport association may pass on a different amount, so the regular nationwide price should not be copied into every discounted-ticket calculation.

The subscription is sold by transport companies and associations rather than through one mandatory national seller. Contract management, payment methods, cancellation cut-offs and replacement procedures therefore depend on the provider even though the core area of validity is nationwide.

When does it take effect?

The price applies to subscription months from January 2026. Provider cancellation deadlines and billing mechanics can differ.

Who is affected?

Passengers
Students
Employees
International residents
  • Existing Deutschlandticket subscribers paying the standard price.
  • New subscribers comparing the ticket with local passes.
  • Students and employees whose discounted ticket is calculated from or connected to the standard price.

What do you need to do?

  1. Check the price and cancellation deadline shown by your own transport provider.
  2. Ask your employer, university or municipality whether a subsidised version applies.
  3. Carry the required identification because the ticket is personal.
  4. Buy a separate ticket before using services that are not included, especially most long-distance trains.

Example

A full year at the standard subscription price

Twelve months at €63 equals €756. A discounted Jobticket, semester ticket or local social ticket can produce a different total.

Example only, for illustration. Your own amount depends on your circumstances.
